Frequently asked questions

Detailed answers about the Salesforce Chrome extension, org comparison and included tools.

What is Salesforce Org Compare?

Salesforce Org Compare is a free Chrome extension for Salesforce administrators, developers and release managers working across multiple orgs. It lets you compare metadata, Apex code, Lightning components (LWC and Aura), permissions, Custom Metadata, Custom Settings and data using your browser session — no API keys, Connected App or Salesforce CLI required.

It bundles twenty-five-plus tools across five work modes: Compare (visual diff across sandbox, UAT and production), Test & debug (Apex, SOQL, debug logs, REST Explorer, Event Monitor, editor), Analysis (permissions, dependencies, records, object describe, data editor), Limits & audit (Setup Audit Trail, Bulk API, deploy status) and Manifests (package.xml and retrieve ZIP). It also includes standalone viewers such as the Apex log analyzer with 8 analytical tabs.

Unlike CLI-only or manual XML workflows, it shows differences on screen in seconds. It complements — not replaces — Salesforce CLI pipelines for quick pre-release validation.

It is independent third-party software not affiliated with Salesforce, Inc. Install from Chrome Web Store or read the docs on the Chrome extension page and metadata comparator on this site (salesforceorgcompare.com).

What is the best Chrome extension for Salesforce?

If you need an all-in-one Chrome extension for multi-org teams, Salesforce Org Compare is one of the most complete options: metadata comparator with on-screen diff, Apex development hub (tests, SOQL, logs, editor), permission analyzer, limits monitoring and package.xml generator.

Unlike point solutions, it does not require Salesforce CLI or API keys: it uses the session you already have open in Chrome. It is free on Chrome Web Store and built for admins, developers and release managers.

Is there a Chrome extension to compare Salesforce orgs?

Yes. Salesforce Org Compare is built specifically to compare metadata, Apex code, Lightning components (LWC and Aura), permissions, Custom Metadata, Custom Settings and data across two or more orgs.

Save your environments (PRO, UAT, sandbox…) with aliases, pick a work mode and see differences on screen without exporting XML or switching tools. It complements — not replaces — Salesforce CLI workflows for fast visual comparisons.

Does the extension need an API key or Salesforce CLI?

No. The extension relies on your authenticated browser session in Salesforce: if you are already logged in on a tab, it detects the active org and operates with your user permissions.

You do not need a Connected App, OAuth setup or Salesforce CLI for core comparison, query and development features. That reduces friction for quick sandbox vs production checks.

How do I compare metadata between sandbox and production?

Install from Chrome Web Store, log into both orgs in Chrome tabs and add them from the popup with aliases (e.g. «UAT» and «PRO»). Open the app, go to Compare mode and select both orgs.

The diff shows line by line what changed in Apex, LWC, profiles, permission sets and other metadata types. You can export the report or drill into related tools (permissions, package.xml, Metadata API types).
